Siena
Back To Florence
The
hill top glory of the medieval city of Siena contains old houses and palaces
still lining the narrow winding streets of the city. Siena is the medieval city
par excellence, more intimate and possibly more appealing than Florence itself.
The
heart of Siena is the shell-shaped square called the Campo, the scene of the
famous Palio, a horse race, run twice yearly, between the town's medieval contrade,
or districts. Siena has 17 contrade each with its own flag. Also
in the Campo is Siena's town hall.
